What my aim is for this project

The aim for this project is to make a 1 minute thriller film trailer, while using cinematography and editing effectively. My aim is to get this project finished on time and make the trailer eye catchy to the audience + interesting.

The aim for this project is to make a 1 minute film what is eye catchy to the audience but also always keeps them entertained while knowing what is going on and not confused, while using cinematography and editing effectively. My aim is trying to get this project finished on time while making the audience not confused and the film interesting.

Why i'm undertaking this research: I'm undertaking this research to get information on what the audience/customers looks for in trailers and what they think makes a good trailer. Also the audience/customers will help me on my market research on what social media people use the most.

Unique: My idea is unique because as well as a trailer for my film is can be also be used to show dangerous the online world can be if you don't use it properly as well as being interesting.

I'm undertaking this research to get information on that the audience looks for in trailer and what makes a good thriller film to them, this will include a questionnaire what people will have to fill out (Primary Research). Also the audience will help out with market research on does social media influence you to go watch a movie e.g a review online or a trailer online.

My idea is unique because it can be used as multi purpose as it can be used as a trailer and can be used to show how dangerous the internet can be if not used safely.

Different Types Of Brief

Contractual Brief

  • Advantage - Gives the company an idea of what the client wants to achieve, whilst also initiating a stable price range, where the client and the employer  will agree on a set income.
  •  Disadvantage- Is that the client may require a heavy workload from the employer and a lot of creativity is required.
  • How this could help me: This could help me by making my brief a more legal document and show the audience how the company organises its work. This would engage more with the audience and create a better relatioship.

Formal Brief

  • Advantage-  Document itself is clear, as well as concise, as is lacks in any form of complexity. Also, as it is not always a legal-binding document, the company can express their opinion, as well as having the ability to work around the contract.
  • Disadvantage- Is that the contract is very general, the employer as well as the client, may disagree on the terms of each other's decisions, and opinions which are listed in the contract.
  • How this could help me: This could help me because i could show how i want the company and product to do, it is a simple and easy to make also which would save more time.

Informal Brief

  • Advantage:  No real guideline to the brief, it it very free, and the employer will be allowed to influence their own opinions into the document.
  • Disadvantage:  Expectations proclaimed by the client may interface with ethos of the employer, who may not want to perform a task that involves a heavy workload.
  • How this could help me: This would save time and will show the conversation between the client and the employer, and show the agreement that has taken place.

Co-Operative Brief

  • Advantage: Variety of ideas  and whilst adding a social side to it as well.
  • Disadvantage: Individuals who are in the team may disagree with others.

Negotiated Brief

  • Advantage: Brings ideas of the client and employer together, and merges them into one creating a brief suitable for both the employer and the client
  • Disadvantage:  Could come to a disagreement, that may result the employer losing the potential work.

Commission Brief

  • Advantage: Independent production company will be paid for creating the specific product, and my receive a fraction of the profit that is generated.
  • Disadvantage: When the project is launched the large company may develop a sense of corporate  greed, not giving the independent institution enough credit

Tender Brief

  • Advantage: A lot of competition, the employer will be more determined and motivated to produce a high-quality proposal, that will secure them work from the client
  • Disadvantage: Because of the competition, an employer is likely to be disheartened over losing work set by the client, to another company.

Competition Brief

  • Advantage:  Because of competition, the employer will strive to pitch themselves to the client in the most sufficient way.
  • Disadvantage: Brief is generally free to join, the winner of the competition may have to pay a fee for being crowned victorious .

What i have learnt from examples

From these 3 films that are similar to mine i have learnt how to structure mine to keep it interesting to the audience also how to use camera shots effectively to represent emotions in the film. As well as what bits to use a trailer to not give away all of the story but still keep it interesting for the audience to want to go and see it.

Q&A Analy

This is just a basic question that allowed us to see what breakdown between male and females we had responding.

This feedback showed us the general ages of people who responded which gave us a good idea who was interested in film and this gave us a good overview of what ages we should aim for with our film.

This feedback showed us if people was interested in the subject and watched trailer in their free time.

This shows how many people enjoy watching trailers, the data shows 85% enjoy watching trailers. This is means that my trailer has the potential to be seen by everyone and also the potential to really enjoy it and go see it when it get released.

This shows how often people watch trailers, the data shows that 29% watch them daily and weekly while 42% watch them monthly.

This shows what people look for when they watch trailers, the data shows that people look for strong acting and imortant scenes that make them want to watch it but does not give the story a way in the trailer. This data will help me understand what people would like to see in my trailer in the furture.

This shows how long people would like the trailer to be, this data shows about 85% of people would like to see a trailer what is plus 1 minuite. I will use this data to make my trailer 1 minuite + to make the audience want to watch my trailer.

This shows if people enjoyed the trailer would they go and see the movie, the data shows that 85% of people would. I will use this data to try and make my trailer as good as possiable so when the film comes out people are more likley to go and watch this. This is good because it will make more money for companys.

This shows what people mostly look for when they are watching a thriller trailer. The data shows that most people look for diffrenet shots, quick cuts, and tention music, i will try to focus on these points in my trailer more than the others to try to hook the audience in by what they like to watch.

This shows peoples most favorite thriller film of all time, the data shows a wide mix of films but batman get called more times than any other movie. I will use this data to try to base my trailer to look like the style's of batmans so people will hopefully like mine as well.

Batman Dark Knight rises was so popular because of it's mysterious feel and good story to it. Also the scenes are very dark and gloomy what fits into the batman them,

Brief

Project Summary:

My project is to make a trailer for a thriller film. The thriller trailer is about a stalker who has been sending emails to this girl but then one day the girl stopped replying so the stalker got angry and started to track her down. Then one day he followed her home from school and started to chase her until she had nowhere else to run. This could also be used as a promotional video to warn children and parents about the danger of online use.  The goal is to make a trailer for our thriller film, and to make it eye catching for the audience. The long term goal is to make people remember the trailer and make then want to go and see the full film.  We will also promote it on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook so it goes to a wider range of audience.

Target Audience:

The target audience for this trailer is 12+ because there are no graphic scenes in the trailer. The trailer will have quick cuts and keeping to the point to keep the target audience interested, because kids around 12 can easily lose interest in things in front of them if it does not grab them straight away. Also the target audience is around this age  because 12+ are the most who spend online each day looking at Twitter, YouTube and Facebook this means that if they like the trailer they are likely to show their friends what means it will meet a wider audience.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:

The BBFC would rate my trailer as a 12A as there is no scene of violence or bad language shown. It is suitable for this age because as well as it being a trailer for a film it could also be an educational video on how talking to people online can be dangerous no matter how nice they sound.

Communication Strategy:

When the audience work with us and watch are trailer, they will get a reliable and efficient service. People can tweet at us what they liked about it, and what they did not like about it. We hope to get as many people to see are trailer that's why we are putting it on all social media sites so we get the maximum people watching it. We will try to get everyone who watched it to give feedback what they can do on twitter , google docs or youtube and facebook.

Competitive Positioning:

My trailer is different from everyone else because as well as a trailer it can be used to educate people on how dangerous online is any never meet up with anyone online. This can educate anyone who is online even parents on how safe there kids are. This can help from a  marketing place because this can bring more attention towards  my trailer.

Single-Minded Message:

STAY SAVE ONLINE

Brief Feedback:

Good

It's promotes the danger and awareness of online safety.

An appropriate audience has been applied from the brief idea because it discussing about the child safety online.

Bad

The brief has not yet been completed, there are missing areas which summarises the brief.

More detailed story line which is too simple.

Improve

To Improve the brief there are some spelling mistakes in the second line. The story needs to have a detailed beginning to show what could have been prevented. The brief needs to be finished from the summary to the Competitive Positioning.

How the brief will meet the requirements

The brief discusses what the planning and the project will be based around, this includes the idea, the main goal and target audience. The target audience has to be interested in the film that i'm making so they want to watch it and buy it. A method of shipping copies without requiring a physical delivery and copy of the product for example like Netflix. Overall the brief needs to show what is happening from the company. I used creative and innovative thinking and deliberate thinking to make my ideas and film unique, I did market research to see what the gaps in the market would be and how my game can fit those gaps which would then make it successful.

Research plans

My goals are to get as much information as possible from people about trailers so i can make my trailer better and appeal to wider range of audience, and get information like would social media influence you to watch film.

  • Make a survey on what people want to see in trailers and movies.
  • Make a survey does social media influence you to watch a movie.
  • Research other trailers.
  • Research other companies.
  • Research how social media is used to promote a trailer.
  • Do actors influence you to watch movies.

Enterprise Research

Aim of My Research

The aim of my research is to see what other companies did to make their film successful and get some ideas on how they did it while making my film unique.

Why am i Researching?

I'm researching because it well help with my understanding on how big companies sell their product and make it appeal to their target audience. As well as my product look more professional.

Market research

Doing market research allows you to see how to improve your product to potentially grab new customers. This allows you to make more profit with new customers buying the product all the time. Where is the best sell locations around the world, shopping characteristics, best ways to promote. Involves both primary and secondary research. Short, to the point, addressed to specific individuals.

Primary Research

The primary research that I had  done was the questionnaire which can be found above the brief, this was just to make sure what my target audience watched, and that it would be something they would like to watch. An enterprise skill that I should use is commercial awareness and this means I am able to adapt my ideas around the audience and this means that I won't be creating a product that people do not want.

Secondary Research

The secondary research I have done is getting ideas of other trailers like mine and copied some of the ideas that were good but didn't go to plan in their trailer and to see if I could execute them better.I looked at the markets out there where i could distribute my trailer and what one would be the best for me. I decided to sell it online and release the trailer on YouTube as it's a known platform as well as being free. In order to get these sources of data I had used a search engine and a vary of websites that contain the secondary research which is similar to my product idea. This enterprise skill I had used in this task is critical thinking because than I am able to analyse these different sources and see how they had become successful or unsuccessful. However secondary research can end up having a few problems because the sources and research could be heavily biased or unreliable. If the research was then unreliable or biased I had to then use another enterprise skill which was problem solving, to resolve the error and edit it to help my research and product. Using secondary data does save time as you don't have to do it yourself which is why I used it on a few tasks to help me as I didn't have much time to finish a task so I used another enterprise skill, time management, it is obvious that my ability to use time management helped complete the task in time, otherwise I would be unsure if I would've completed it in time.

Digital Product

Where will my trailer be distributed

I will use social media mainly to promote my trailer but as well as social media i will use other things like website, posters, websites etc, this helps reach a wider range of audience.

Youtube - Upload the Trailer video ( Make an official channel)

Twitter - Make a twitter account for the film and tweet about the YouTube video.

Facebook - Make an official facebook account for the film and upload the video on there.

Twitch - I could pay twitch to play my trailer at the start of every partnered person.

Poster

Posters can be used to promote my trailer as this one, as posters can be shown online and when you're out and about. I want to keep my poster nice and simple but also eye catchy so people stop to look at it and wonder what it's about. This will also reach a wider wide range of people who don't use social media.

Website

Websites can also be used to promote my trailer as well. This would help promote my trailer because when you search for the title of the trailer normally websites will come up first, as well as if i promote my trailer on popular websites like the news more people will see it.  This helps people find my trailer more easier what helps more people see it.

Where will the product/service be distributed and consumed?

The product will be sold online or at different shops when released on dvd. Online you can buy it from Amazon, Ebay or a shops online website.

It is distributed across the world for example: you can buy it in Great Britain, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and in Australia. This is so countries get to have the product and instead of only certain countries having the product.

Copyright

Copyright Infringement can be an issue in the market because the ideas are not original and the consequences can result in paying the original creators of the work. This can also give your company or position a bad reputation especially on the market, customers will not be interested in a brand that cannot make their own ideas for a product. I'm not worried because there was no use of copyright in the production of my film as i checked if the music and sound effects were copyright free before using them.
