Final Idea MindMap

TreatMent

My idea is about a guy called Lucas who has a machine to go back in time and redo anything he wants with the help of the professor. Their objective is to break into a high secured house to break into a safe, what has important plans what will affect reality. After he has failed a couple of times they are running against the clock to get the objective done, after a couple of times he finds a way to get past and get to the safe. After he grabbed the documents he gives the signal to go back to reality, but they soon find out they are being chased by the same people who they stole the documents from, now they are in a race to get the documents to a safe location before it's too late.

We are gonna make 2 dimension both the same setting ( we will take pictures of the house so we know where props are placed, also note down the time) but the character functions will be different in both. To show he is in reality we will keep the filter normal but when he goes into the dimension the filter will go a different colour to show this.

Peer Assessment

So far i have brain stormed my ideas for the 2minute thriller film and came up with a final one, and made a mind map on some ideas i have for camera shots, locations, props, editing, sound etc. Also made a treatment talking about my idea in detail, and how we will produce it and the basic storyline. For the rest of the pre-production i will collect data and get feedback from other people about the ideas and what they think of them. So far i think the ideas i have come up with could make a good thriller film.

QA Research

This are a couple of questions i have look at that could be used in my questionaire to ask people what they look for in thriller films etc. These question are good because it would give me a good idea if people would like my idea and show what people would like to see also.

QUESTIONNAIRE analysis

This graph shows the age of the people who have answered my question. This was the age group i was going for, as my target audience is 13+. So the data give will help me engage with my target audience more.

This graph shows what genre people like more and want to see. It shows that thriller is the most popular, this is good for me as my film will be thriller genre as well. So this means more people may see it as they like that genre more.

This graph shows what sub-genre find most appealing to them. It shows that action thriller was the most popular, this good as mine will be an action thriller. So this means more people are likely to be interested by my film, what gives a wider range of audience.

This graph that people like to see tension and suspense being built up. This is good because i will be using this in my film to create impact with the audience, meaning it makes it more interesting for people to watch as it creating dramatic effect. This will be a big focus when making my film as i want the audience to feel the tension to create impact.

This shows that most people find the most important element within a thriller is plot. This will help me when creating my feel, as it tells me that people want to see the plot developing as it goes on.

Focus Group

In are focus group we told each other are ideas and gave feedback on what we liked and did not like, and things they may want to add. The focus contained Me, Tom, Ryan, and Jordan.

Jordan P: I like the idea of the protagonist being able to travel between dimensions it could lead towards some interesting editing styles and would make a really interesting story if executed correctly.

Ryan B: The film sounds like it could be good and sounds like a heist film. Also this is similar  source code. I like the idea of a high security house because i want to see how that would turn out and also the safe and the aspect of pressure on Lucas getting this paper is good because it adds intenseness to the film.

ANALYSIS of focus group

Jordan said he liked the idea of being able to travel back in time and travel between dimensions, we just have to make sure we execute it right and make sure the editing is also right as i think that is the most important part of the film to make it look better and stand out from the rest.

Ryan said he liks the general idea of the film and says it is similar to source code, what is good because that's what we were going for. He says he also likes the idea of breaking into a high secured house as it could lead to some good scenes. He gave us a idea that we could use in are 2 minute film, we could consider the idea.

Target audience

The target audience to are film will be around 13+ this is because there is intense sequences of violence and terror, disturbing images for some. I knows this because similar films like Deja Vu & Source Code also have the same target audience.

Contingency

Filming:

  • We are filming most of the film indoors but there may be a couple of scenes what may be outside due to this there is a chance it could rain, and we would have to film another day.
  • If the camera runs out of battery or breaks we have toms camera and the school camera so if one runs out of battery we can use the other one as a backup.
  • If some of are actors can't make the filming day we have backups to replace them.

Editing:

  • The software may crash or stop working, to stop this make backups regularly or backup software sony vegas.

SIMILAR FILM

Release Date: November 22, 2006

Gross:  $64,034,835

DeJaVu is very similar to my idea, as they both involve going back in time to change the future. This means i look at the film and see how they use mise-en-scene and cinematography in the film.

I have chosen a 1:52 from the movie, because the movie is similar to my idea and will help me when i make my 2 minute scene. This is a good part of the movie as it's the big battle, but even if you haven't watched the movie before you could sort of sense what was going on. As at the start of the scene a police officer come through the door and starts to shoot at one of the guys, this shows the audience that the guy the police officer is shooting at is the bad guy. This shows i need to make sure the audience has a brief idea on what's going on when they watch mine.

The cinematography used in this scene is very fast pace. Most of the shots used are either mid shots or close ups of the guns being shot or reloaded. At the very start there is a shot of, the camera gives a lot of close ups but also looks around at the surroundings of people showing how many people are watching this but can't help. This gives the effect on how many people lives would be taken away if the main characters does not kill him.

Location Shots

The location I want to use for the opening of the film was going to be in a mansion but because of budget, I have had to use a regular looking house for the start of the film. I want to try and make it very bland and clean  and not make it like someone lives there or stays there regularly.

Storyboard

Reflection

Drafts helps me improve on the final product as i can get feedback from other people. The storyboard is a rough idea on how some of the main shots are gonna look like. Also how the narrative will play out in different scenes and impact the film giving a twist in the plot, keeping the audience watching.

Gantt Chart

Evidence of Progression from Editing

In this sequence i added a blue/grey tint over the footage. I did this because in the film i wanted to show the difference between the reality world and the real world. I thought the easiest way the audience would understand this is through the blue/grey tint as black and white represent the past.

On the left of adobe premire pro is the effects tab of that clip. You can see i added the black and white effect along with colour balance and made the blue slightly higher than the rest to get the blue/grey tint effect.

This shows part of the timeline on adobe premire pro, the green bars at the bottom are the different sounds and music added over the footage. The pink bars are the titles, to make the black bars to give the film a more cinematic feel.
